LEGO City Monster Truck (60402) Review – Big Wheels, Big Fun!

We recently picked up the LEGO City Monster Truck (60402), and honestly, it’s been an absolute hit in the house. From its first wild trip down the stairs to multiple heroic jumps over the sofa, this thing has delivered non-stop entertainment — and a few crash landings we’ll just call “stunt practice.”

First Impressions

Right out of the box, it’s clear that this monster truck means business. The blue colour scheme is bold, the massive tyres look ready to crush anything in their path (including unsuspecting LEGO minifigs), and the build just feels sturdy. It’s built like a tank on wheels — and ours has definitely been tested.

Build Experience

The build was quick and easy, which made it perfect for a casual evening activity. It’s around 148 pieces, so it doesn’t take long to put together — but still feels rewarding. LEGO did a great job balancing simplicity with just enough detail to make it fun.

It includes a cool monster truck driver minifigure, complete with a helmet and attitude, and once it’s built, the play starts immediately.

Features That Stand Out

Here’s what makes the LEGO City Monster Truck 60402 stand out:

  • Massive tyres – These chunky wheels roll over almost anything… including cushions, rugs, and rogue slippers.

  • Rugged build – Ours has “fallen” down the stairs more times than I’d like to admit, and it’s still going strong.

  • Perfect play size – It’s small enough to race around the house but big enough to feel solid in your hands.

  • Great for all ages – Easy enough for younger builders (age 5+), but fun enough that adults might “borrow” it too.

What We Loved

  • Instant hit with the kids – As soon as it was built, it was off doing jumps, flips, and wild stunts.

  • Super sturdy – We’ve launched it off chairs, down ramps, and even into a laundry basket. Still no broken pieces!

  • Affordable fun – At around £8–£10 / $10 USD, it’s great value for the amount of joy it brings.

  • Good addition to any LEGO City setup – It fits right in with other vehicles, but also shines on its own as a wild stunt machine.

A Few Minor Notes

  • No real suspension – The wheels are big, but they don’t bounce like the Technic sets. That said, it still feelsbouncy thanks to the big tyres.

  • Could use a small ramp or jump – It would’ve been cool if LEGO included a mini obstacle or barrel setup for stunts. But hey, we just used a stack of books.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a fun, fast, and affordable LEGO vehicle, the LEGO City Monster Truck 60402 is an absolute winner. It’s easy to build, super fun to play with, and tough enough to handle real-life chaos — like tumbling down the stairs and still coming out ready for more action.

Whether it’s racing across the living room, flying over the arm of the sofa, or just looking cool on the shelf, this little truck has definitely earned its place in our collection.

★★★★★

Highly recommended — especially if you’re into stunts, speed, and some good old-fashioned LEGO mayhem!
